the sword of inner trial
“Khudi hai tegh-e-fasaan, La ilaha illallah”
Fasaan — derived from the root meaning “trial, ordeal, test” — is the sharp blade that cuts through illusion. In this immortal verse, Allama Iqbal declares:
“The secret of the Self is hidden in ‘La ilaha illallah’. The Self is the sword of Fasaan — La ilaha illallah.”
To Iqbal, Khudi (the Self) is not weakness — it is a sword that must undergo the ultimate trial (Fasaan) to realize divine truth. Every mystery, every life debate, every problem we face is a sharpening of that sword.
